Position Summary

Harbor Montessori School, an independent, non-profit, accredited school in Gig Harbor, WA is seeking a nurturing, consistent, collaborative individual to join our team. The Assistant Teacher assists the Head Teacher in providing a high-quality learning experience that meets the standards of the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Washington Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: preparing and maintaining the indoor and outdoor environments; actively supervising a group of 12 children at all times; supporting student behavior through modeling and positive discipline techniques; assisting with meals, diapering/toileting, rest time, and other aspects of the daily routine; establishing and maintaining a positive and professional relationship with children, families, and coworkers; willingness to learn and grow in understanding and application of the Montessori approach to education; and other duties as assigned.

The working conditions/physical requirements include the ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; ability to stand, walk, run, and bend for extended periods; ability to lift, hold, and move children weighing up to 50 pounds; frequent need to sit on the floor, crawl, squat, kneel, and stoop to engage with toddlers at their eye level.
